چکیده

Schema comparison is essential for integrating diierent database schemata. Since the semantics of a schema is also represented by its integrity constraints, they must be considered by a correct schema comparison method. Especially the extensional relationships between classes are determined by the relationship between the corresponding integrity constraint sets. In this paper, we work out the relationships between diierent types of integrity constraints. As a result, we present rules for comparing integrity constraint sets. These rules can be used after a schema conforming step, where naming, type and structural connicts are solved, to exactly x the extensional relationship between object classes.

Deriving Spatial Integrity Constraints from Geographic Application Schemas

Integrity constraints of various kinds must be observed when creating or updating a database in order to preserve the semantics and the quality of stored data (Elmasri & Navathe, 2000). Within the scope of geographic applications, integrity assurance requires special attention from the designer, since most geographic applications use data that depend on spatial relationships (Egenhofer & Franzo...

Enforcing Cardinality Constraints in the ER Model with Integrity Methods

Copyright © 2002, Idea Group Publishing. Entity-Relationship (ER) schemas include cardinality constraints that restrict the dependencies among entities within a relationship type. The cardinality constraints have direct impact on application transactions, since insertions or deletions of entities or relationships might affect related entities. Application transactions can be strengthened to pre...

Functional Dependencies for Object Databases

There is an increasing use of object oriented methods (e.g. [Ru91], [UML97]) for the design of database applications and databases themselves. Like the Entity–Relationship model and its variants, structural models of these methods provide rich modelling concepts for specifying object schemas. Some kinds of integrity constraints, e.g. referential integrity constraints or cardinality constraints ...

ROVER: flexible yet consistent evolution of relationships

Relationships have been repeatedly identified as an important object-oriented modeling construct. Most emerging modeling standards such as the ODMG object model and UML have some support for relationships. However OODB systems have largely ignored the existence of relationships during schema evolution. We are the first to propose comprehensive support for relationship evolution. A complete sche...
